OAR cottage is modelled on a medieval cottage or cruckbuilt of wood in the early 16th century. Around 1520–1525, it was decided to erect a larger, more compact and secluded house that would not only accommodate the stables and the family residence but also various forms of production in an integrated manner; an architectural innovation that spread like wildfire throughout the Basque Country within a few decades: EL CASERÍO.

Over the years, this building – which once served as a sanctuary for the most ancient rituals of Basque folk culture – has gradually taken on a new form, inspiring Carmen and Manu, majestic and generous hosts, to go one step further. Following a thorough and meticulous renovation, blending the essence of the traditional farmhouses of yesteryear with the soul of an English cottage, they are opening the doors to their nine rooms, where attentive service, comfort and exclusivity will be their hallmark, alongside the fascinating details carefully placed in every corner. A place of tranquillity where you can switch off from everyday life, seek inspiration, enjoy life’s little pleasures and, above all, feel right at home away from home.
