OAR Cottage stands on the site of a medieval cottage or cruck. Around 1520–1525, the decision was taken to build a larger, more compact and secluded house that would not only accommodate livestock and the family residence but also various integrated forms of production; an architectural innovation that spread like wildfire throughout the Basque Country within a few decades: THE CASERÍO.

Over the years, this building – which once served as a sanctuary for the most ancient rituals of Basque folk culture – has gradually taken on a new form, inspiring Carmen and Manu, majestic and generous hosts, to go one step further. Following a thorough and meticulous renovation, blending the essence of the traditional farmhouses of yesteryear with the soul of an English cottage, they are opening the doors to their nine rooms, where attentive service, comfort and exclusivity will be their hallmark, alongside the fascinating details carefully placed in every corner. A peaceful retreat where you can switch off from everyday life, seek inspiration, enjoy life’s little pleasures and, above all, feel right at home away from home.
